AEW Dynamite #27 – Undisclosed Location – April 8th, 2020

The show opened with Jake Roberts saying Cody will probably lose to Shawn Spears so he doesn’t have to face Lance Archer. Tony Schiavone and Chris Jericho on commentary tonight.

Lance Archer defeated Alan Angels with a Blackout slam.

Hikaru Shida defeated Britt Baker with a running knee strike.

Shida made Baker’s nose bleed towards the end of the match.

Best Friends defeated Kenny Omega and Michael Nakazawa with a Strong Zero.

The winner would be the new “Best Friends”, so it’s probably for the best that the Best Friends won.

Another Jon Moxley and Jake Hager rivalry video aired.

Matt Hardy invited the Maker of Pain to an “Elite Deletion” at the Hardy compound.

Brodie Lee defeated Lee Johnson with a rolling lariat.

Cody defeated Shawn Spears in the TNT Championship Semi-Finals match with a Figure Four pin.

Shawn Spears’ shoulders were down and he was too distracted by the pain of the Figure Four to do anything about it.

Tony Schiavone, Cody, and Pharoah on commentary tonight. The show opened with the release of the TNT Championship bracket.

Kenny Omega defeated Trent with the One-Winged Angel.

After the match, Kenny helped Trent up and fist-bumped him.

Hikaru Shida defeated Anna Jayy with the Falcon Arrow.

Britt Baker and Shida exchanged words before and after the match and Britt ate a sandwich during the match because she thought it was boring.

A video played about Jon Moxley and Jake Hager’s rivalry. In two weeks, the two will face off for the title in an empty arena.

Lance Archer destroyed Marko Stunt with a Blackout slam.

Colt Cabana was on commentary while after the match Archer chokeslammed Stunt into the “crowd”.

Brodie Lee ordered the Dark Order to refer to him as Mr. Brodie and shouted at one of them that yawning showed weakness and to never yawn in front of him again.

The Natural Nightmares (QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes) made their debut by defeating Dark Order representatives 8 and 9 with a tandem cutter finish.

Mr. Brodie came out after the match and powerbombed 8 and stared at 9.

A video aired of Chris Jericho in his hot tub. Vanguard-1 flew in and the Maker of Pain gave him a small Inner Circle t-shirt. Vanguard apparently didn’t like it because it flew away. Jericho threw his Bubbly at it and shouted “Release the hounds!” A bunch of dogs chased after Vanguard, but it was already over the lake.

Matt Jackson brought a ring to Nick Jackson’s house and they worked out in it. They said Nick isn’t ready to return yet.

Shawn Spears and Sammy Guevara defeated Darby Allin and Cody.

During the match, Spears and Guevara bet on who could hold Darby in a vertical suplex for longer. When they finally put Darby down, Sammy distracted him with a steel chair and Spears pinned him for the win.

AEW Dynamite #25 Results: March 25th, 2020

AEW Dynamite #25 – Jacksonville, Florida – Daily’s Place – March 25th, 2020

Tony Schiavone and Cody Rhodes on commentary for the night.

Jake Hager defeated Chico Adams with Head and Arm Triangle.

Jon Moxley attacked Hager after the match and said in an interview that in their title match, Hager would get taken out on a stretcher or Mox would die trying.

Brodie Lee (Mr. Brodie to you) ate dinner with the Dark Order but wouldn’t allow them to eat until he was done. He kicked one out for trying to eat before he was done and another one for sneezing.

Brodie Lee defeated QT Marshall with a rolling lariat.

After the match Lee left a mask for QT.

Vanguard-1 flew to check on Nick Jackson’s recovery. He is about 61% recovered.

Kenny Omega defeated Sammy Guevara with the One-Winged Angel and retained the AAA Championship.

Chris Jericho offered Vanguard-1 a spot in the Inner Circle but the drone flew away. While Jericho was yelling at Vanguard-1, Matt Hardy appeared at the top of the arena and teleported down to the ring. Hardy told a bewildered Maker of Pain that he knew Jericho recognized his “vessel”, but there was a different “essence” controlling him, known as Demascus. Demascus, being 3,000 years old, told Jericho he wouldn’t let the Inner Circle destroy All Elite Wrestling, a “paradise”. The Maker of Pain offered Hardy a spot in the Inner Circle but Hardy said he was neither Elite or Inner Circle but rather, “delete”. Demascus then talked about how the stadium was full of “essences”, such as Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr., and said Jericho’s essence was “truly a hole of the ass”. Hardy said the essences liked to sing Jericho’s theme song, Judas, and that he was betrayed by the real Judas. Finally, he punched “le hole of the ass” in the face and knocked him to the ground. Jericho mocked Hardy, which was actually a signal to Sammy Guevara to attack Hardy. Then Kenny Omega and Cody saved Matt Hardy by using steel chairs. Jericho and Guevara retreated to the stage, where Demascus scared them with the fire onstage.

Hikaru Shida defeated Penelope Ford, Riho, and Kris Statlander after Shida pinned Ford with a running knee strike.

In an interview at ringside, Colt Cabana said without Kip Sabian, Penelope Ford would be much more successful. Sabian and Cabana exchanged shoves and Cabana slapped Sabian in the face.

The Inner Circle (Santana, Ortiz, and Jake Hager) defeated the Elite (Cody Rhodes, Matt Jackson, and Adam Page) with Santana pinning Matt Jackson.

Chris Jericho was on commentary, and when he came out Sammy Guevara and MJF sang Judas. Towards the end of the match, Cody threw Ortiz into MJF so Wardlow choked him, and so Arn Anderson attacked Wardlow. Adam Page and Matt Jackson went for the Indy Taker, but Page was pulled out of the ring. The Inner Circle will have the advantage at Blood and Guts.

After the match Chris Jericho banned all fans from future AEW events and said the Inner Circle will dominate the Elite. Then Vanguard-1 (a drone) flew in and Matt said that he had a friend who owed him a favor. Suddenly Matt Hardy appeared in the stands. Hardy will take Nick’s place at Blood and Guts.

AEW Dynamite #23 Results: March 11th, 2020

AEW Dynamite #23 – West Valley City, Utah, USA – Maverik Center – March 11, 2020

The show opened with Tony Schiavone interviewing Adam Page about who his tag team partner would be later in the night. The Young Bucks were there and he told Matt Jackson he would never team with him, but seemingly offered the spot to Nick Jackson and then said his partner was a mystery.

Cody defeated Ortiz with the Figure Four.

During the match, Jake Roberts appeared at ringside with the Murderhawk Lance Archer. It appears that he is Roberts’ client.

After the match, Santana and Ortiz attacked Cody, but he was saved by Matt Jackson and Kenny Omega. Chris Jericho then appeared backstage and revealed that Nick Jackson wasn’t out there because he, Sammy Guevara, and Jake Hager attacked him. Nick Jackson was taken to the hospital and was ruled out indefinitely.

Nyla Rose and Bea Priestley defeated Kris Statlander and Hikaru Shida when Rose pinned Shida after a Beast Bomb.

After the match, Priestley posed with the AEW Women’s Championship.

Christopher Daniels did a video segment in the style of Dark Order. He challenged Evil Uno and Stu Grayson to matches and said that the Exalted One doesn’t exist.

MJF, The Butcher & The Blade defeated Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy, Marko Stunt, and Luchasaurus) when MJF tapped out Stunt with Salt of the Earth.

Britt Baker did an interview where she insulted Salt Lake City and the people who live in Utah. This brought out Big Swole and the two argued.

Death Triangle (PAC, Pentagón & Fénix) defeated Joey Janela and Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) when PAC pinned Janela after hitting him with the Black Arrow.

After the match, Best Friends and Orange Cassidy ran in to save the Janela and Private Party team from further attacks from Death Triangle.

Dustin Rhodes did an interview backstage where he stated that he was going to be Adam Page’s partner whether he liked it or not.

Jim Ross did a sit-down interview with Jon Moxley who promised revenge against the Inner Circle.

Adam Page and Dustin Rhodes defeated Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara when Page pinned Guevara after a Buckshot Lariat.

The Inner Circle and The Elite had a big brawl to end the show. The Inner Circle was about to powerbomb Adam Page off the stage like they did to Moxley last week, but Matt Jackson made the save for him. The Inner Circle then beat him down and the show ended with the Inner Circle standing tall again.

AEW Dynamite Preview for March 11, 2020

This week’s AEW Dynamite comes from Salt Lake City, Utah.

Previously on AEW:

  • SCU (Frankie Kazarian, Christopher Daniels & Scorpio Sky) and Colt Cabana defeated The Dark Order (Evil Uno, Stu Grayson, John Silver & Alex Reynolds).
  • Big Swole defeated Leva Bates.
  • Jake Roberts came out to confront Cody. He said that he has a client coming to AEW who is bringing the dark side with him and Jake will be on the outside when his client faces Cody. He finished by saying that you shouldn’t turn your back on anyone you fear or respect. He then turned his back on Cody and walked out.
  • PAC defeated Chuck Taylor with the Brutalizer. After the match, Pentagon, Fenix, and PAC beat up the Best Friends crew. PAC then got on the microphone and said that the three of them would now be known as Death Triangle.
  • Jake Hager defeated QT Marshall with the triangle. After the match, Hager, Santana & Ortiz beat down Marshall and then Dustin Rhodes, Cody, and Matt Jackson. This brought out Adam Page who cleaned house on the Inner Circle. He then flipped off Matt Jackson and left.
  • MJF did a backstage promo talking about how he has replaced Cody as head author of AEW and that he will be the best world champion in wrestling history, challenging Moxley.
  • Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara defeated Jon Moxley and Darby Allin after Jericho hit Darby with the Judas Effect on the outside. This was really a 2-on-1 match as the Inner Circle took out Moxley before the match. After the match, the Inner Circle powerbombed Moxley off the stage.

For more on last week’s Dynamite, check out our Elite 8 Dynamite review

We saw an official announcement that the Blood & Guts match will be 5-on-5, the Inner Circle vs. The Elite. This week we will see an official announcement of the match rules which will be interesting to see if they vary from the War Games match that Dusty Rhodes invented.

This show and this match are set to be one of the most hyped things in AEW history with the NCAA Basketball Tournament starting the week before on Turner networks which is likely to feature a ton of ad time pushing this edition of AEW Dynamite.

This will be Cody’s first match since losing to MJF at AEW Revolution. While this will only be Ortiz’s second singles match in AEW history. He wrestled Moxley on the February 5th Dynamite which was first singles match since 2016.

MJF’s loose partnership with The Butcher & The Blade is reunited here. These three last teamed at AEW Bash at the Beach when they defeated Diamond Dallas Page, Dustin Rhodes & QT Marshall.

This is a somewhat continuation of when MJF defeated Jungle Boy (with help from his Dynamite Dozen Diamond Ring) on the February 12th Dynamite. The Jurassic Express won their last trios match against the Inner Circle on the February 26th Dynamite.

Death Triangle was formed last week, but this is actually their second time wrestling as a trio as they lost to The Elite on AEW Homecoming. This will be Joey Janela’s first time teaming with Private Party.

This match was made after an altercation at the AEW Dark taping last week. That hasn’t made video yet(?) so maybe tonight on AEW Dark we’ll see what made this.

Kenny Omega is not cleared for in-ring action so Adam Page will get to choose a mystery partner for this match. This will be Omega’s fourth time in the ring across from Chris Jericho. He has never won.

Sammy Guevara & Chris Jericho have a 3-1 record as a team with two of those wins coming against teams with Adam Page on them.

The big mystery here is who Page will choose as his partner. It’s a safe bet that it won’t be either of the Young Bucks and even Cody feels unlikely after the events on Being the Elite. Jon Moxley and Darby Allin would be likely choices due to their history with these two, but there is always the element of surprise and this being a spot for a big debut.

Elite 8: AEW Dynamite 3/4/2020

AEW Elite 8 is our weekly look at eight things that we liked about the latest episode of AEW Dynamite. You can check out last week’s Elite 8 here and Elite 8 for AEW Revolution here

8. Keeping us waiting

There were a lot of complaints last night that we didn’t see Lance Archer. I have to admit that I was expecting him too, but it turns out AEW never actually said that. This announcement on Dynamite last week was poorly worded, but they never said he would be on the show this week and they never put him in any of their advertising. Everyone just assumed that he would be. So, that’s on us.

It turns out what AEW is doing is far more interesting: They are building anticipation. For everything. For everyone.

Yesterday, we had Jake Roberts (more on him later) appear to tease a new client, the Young Bucks appear on Matt Hardy’s YouTube show, more teases on AEW social media, and more hints towards The Exalted One. All of this stuff is just creating buzz and keeping us asking questions. Who is The Exalted One? Does The Exalted One even exist? Who is Jake Roberts client? Is it Archer? Is it Brodie Lee? How does Matt Hardy fit into this all?

It’s one thing to have great wrestling each week and it’s another thing to tell stories that make sense, but creating a world where people are asking questions and trying to put puzzle pieces together is something else entirely. The mystery is alive in AEW and I’m very happy for them to keep us waiting on these things so that when someone does debut, it means something. It’s not the lights going out and a guy you know from another company appearing. It’s a long-term question being answered by a wrestler that you really want to see. That’s huge, that’s exciting.

7. Colt Cabana debuts with a boom

I was excited about the signing of Colt Cabana to AEW because nobody deserves to be featured on national television more than him. That excitement was rewarded here as Colt looked great in getting his team the win here.

This also worked in extending everything going on with the Dark Order. The odds were fair here so Colt and SCU were able to get the win. That’s good for SCU as they were able to put the Daniels saga behind them. At the same time, the loss (as Evil Uno said) is likely going to make The Exalted One angry and brings his debut closer. The loss might also make John Silver and Alex Reynolds doubt their decision to join Dark Order (doubts that Silver already has) as they are still winless since joining.

This was a much needed win for SCU, but it feels like this thing is far from over.

6. Big Swole, Big Win

While the women’s division got the short straw on time again this week (to put it mildly), this was a good use of that time. Big Swole has had longer matches on Dynamite that didn’t do nearly as much to make her look awesome and like someone worth paying attention to than this did.

I’d like to see AEW do something like the Dynamite Dozen or a tournament of some kind with the women’s division. With Nyla Rose at the top of the mountain, we need something to give the Big Swoles and Penelopes Ford of the world something to fight for.

5. The best Best Friends hug of all

It’s science.

4. Death Triangle

AEW’s King of Trios tournament has a new favorite: Death Triangle!

I am all the way in on this trio. I think that Rey Fenix is probably the most exciting wrestler in the world, Pentagon bleeds charisma, and that PAC is incapable of having a bad match. Putting those three together maybe puts the Lucha Brothers a bit more towards the heel side than I would like, but I know that everything these three are going to is going to be amazing.

On the Jericho Cruise, they talked about possibly adding an AEW Trios title and doing the tournament there. Why wait that long? We are ready for it right now and they have the teams to do it. A hot trios match would instantly make every show better (if that’s even possible) and it gets Fenix on my TV more.

Forget the Jericho Cruise, I want it now.

3. The Snake

I had to re-watch this one because in the moment I was really confused by Jake’s half-and-half hair cut and why nobody let him drink any water all day. That said, there is a lot to digest here.

  • Jake refers to Cody as Caesar throughout this promo. A lot of people have pointed out how Julius Caesar was betrayed and killed on the Ides of March. That would be March 15th, a Sunday, so that’s out. The next Dynamite is March 18th from Rochester, NY.
  • Of course, that Caesar line could be referring to Cody himself. He has already been betrayed by MJF and grown arrogant (next tattoo). Could we be witnessing Cody becoming corrupted by power? Is his Dark Side coming?
  • I loved Jake calling Arn a “one-trick pony” because the only thing I can think of is that these two have some sort of DDT-related heat. I’m the guy who gives intense promos and hits DDTs, not you!
  • Jake says that he’s not in AEW to take the whole pie, he just wants Cody’s share. Is this just because he’s at the top or is there something more?
  • Jake’s disrespectful walk off may be the most badass thing I’ve ever seen.

2. Blood & Guts

I was hoping for some clues as to what we might see for AEW’s Blood & Guts match in three weeks and we got them… sort of.

The Jake Hager vs. QT Marshall match was a slaughter and lead to Matt Jackson and Cody being beat-down by them as well. They were saved by Adam Page in another highlight reel moment from Page, but the dissension between them remains.

I was thinking early that it would be some form of Team Moxley taking on the Inner Circle, but this episode left me guessing if the Elite is going to be involved in some way. I think we’ll find out more next week, but right now my guesses for the match are:

  • Inner Circle vs. Moxley, Darby, QT, Dustin Rhodes and Cody
  • Inner Circle vs. Moxley, Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Adam Page
  • Inner Circle vs. The Elite and Adam Page
  • Inner Circle vs. Moxley, Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Cody/Dustin/Darby

(That last one would really piss off Hangman.)

Whatever it ends up being, I’m excited and I like that the Inner Circle has pissed off so many people that there are multiple legit candidates to face them in this match.

On a night where Jon Moxley made his first appearance as the AEW World Champion, the show belonged to Darby Allin.

Darby was meant to team with Moxley (something we’ve been waiting on for awhile), but it wasn’t meant to be. The Inner Circle attacked Moxley during his entrance which left Darby to go it alone. What happened next was a thing of beauty.

Darby was just so amazing in this match. I had a friend text me during it saying this was a “star making performance” from Darby. It’s a weird thing where I agree and disagree with him at the same time.

I agree because every single match from Darby is a star making performance. He’s the most can’t miss wrestler in AEW and every match he has on Dynamite feels like the most important thing on the show. It doesn’t matter how much time he has, you are going to remember something from his match and you are going to remember him. Which is why I disagree, this guy is already a star.

To me, nothing illustrates that more than this moment from the match where he tagged himself in.

In lesser hands, tagging yourself would have been made fun of endlessly. Imagine like John Cena or someone doing this. Lame, right? I don’t even know if Moxley could do it without inspiring some laughs. When Darby does it though? Magic.

I was really expecting Mox to make his return before the match ended to save Darby, but this was so much better. It stinks that Darby got the loss here which brings his record in AEW to 7-8-1. This just goes to show that record isn’t everything because to everyone who watched those matches, Darby won every one.

AEW Dynamite #22 Results: March 4th, 2020

AEW Dynamite #22 – Broomfield, CO – 1stBank Center – March 4, 2020

The new AEW World Champion Jon Moxley opened the show with an in-ring promo. He thanked the fans and said he would defend the belt with his life. He was then interrupted by the Inner Circle as Jericho made excuses for losing the title. Jericho said the Inner Circle is putting AEW on watch and said he would leave AEW for 60 days if Moxley leaves this show under his own power.

SCU (Frankie Kazarian, Christopher Daniels & Scorpio Sky) and Colt Cabana defeated The Dark Order (Evil Uno, Stu Grayson, John Silver & Alex Reynolds) when Cabana hit Reynolds with the Chicago Skyline and pinned him with the Superman Pin.

After the match, Evil Uno got on the mic and screamed about how it wasn’t supposed to go this way. He also said The Exalted One would not be happy about this loss.

Big Swole defeated Leva Bates after hitting her with Dirty Dancing.

Britt Baker was on commentary during this match.

Cody Rhodes came to the ring to talk about his loss to MJF. He said the only way he could deal with it was if MJF came out and said to his face that he beat him cleanly. Instead of MJF, Jake Roberts came out to confront Cody. He said that he has a client coming to AEW who is bringing the dark side with him and Jake will be on the outside when his client faces Cody. Jake made fun of Arn Anderson and said he wasn’t going to be nice. He finished by saying that you shouldn’t turn your back on anyone you fear or respect. He then turned his back on Cody and walked out.

PAC defeated Chuck Taylor with the Brutalizer.

After the match, Orange Cassidy went to confront PAC, but he was attacked by the Lucha Brothers. Pentagon, Fenix, and PAC beat up the Best Friends crew. PAC then got on the microphone and said that the three of them would now be known as Death Triangle.

Jake Hager defeated QT Marshall with the triangle.

After the match, Hager, Santana & Ortiz beat down on Marshall and then Dustin Rhodes. This brought out Cody and then Matt Jackson who also fell victim to the numbers game. Finally, Adam Page (drinking a beer) came out and cleaned house on the Inner Circle. Matt Jackson went to shake his hand, but Page gave him the middle finger and walked out.

MJF did a backstage promo talking about how he has replaced Cody as head author of AEW and that he will be the best world champion in wrestling history, challenging Moxley. He then took off his jacket to reveal a “I Pinned Cody” shirt.

Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara defeated Jon Moxley and Darby Allin after Jericho hit Darby with the Judas Effect on the outside.

Before the match, the Inner Circle of Jake Hager, Santana & Ortiz attacked Jon Moxley during his entrance and took him down to the concourse. They brawled for a bit before Moxley was choked out by Hager. This lead to Darby saying he would fight Sammy Guevara and Chris Jericho, two-on-one. Darby put up a hell of a fight, but he went for a dive to the outside late in the match and was caught with the Judas Effect.

In the post-match, Moxley escaped from the doctor’s care and hit the ring with a chair. He soon fell victim to the numbers game and ended up being triple-powerbombed off the stage through a table.

AEW Dynamite Preview for March 4, 2020

This week’s AEW Dynamite comes from Denver, Colorado and is the first AEW show since AEW Revolution this past Saturday.

Previously on AEW:

  • AEW announced a “Blood & Guts” match for Dynamite on March 25th from the Prudential Center.
  • The Dark Order (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) defeated SCU (Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) with a roll-up at AEW Revolution. After the match, The Dark order beat down on Kazarian & Sky which lead to Christopher Daniels and Colt Cabana making the save.
  • Jake Hager defeated Dustin Rhodes with a triangle choke.
  • Darby Allin defeated Sammy Guevara with a Coffin Drop.
  • AEW Tag Team Championship match: Kenny Omega & Hangman Page defeated The Young Bucks after Page hit the Buckshot Lariat on Nick Jackson.
  • MJF defeated Cody after hitting him with the Diamond Dozen Diamond Ring.
  • Pac defeated Orange Cassidy by submission with The Brutalizer. During the match, the Lucha Brothers attacked Best Friends, seemingly aligning themselves with PAC.
  • Jon Moxley defeated Chris Jericho with the Paradigm Shift to become the new AEW World Champion.

For more on AEW Revolution, check out our Elite 8 AEW Revolution review

Announced for this week:

This will be Colt Cabana’s official in-ring AEW debut. Kazarian & Sky didn’t trust Christopher Daniels at Revolution and asked him not to come to the ring with them, but he made the save for them after the match and seemingly regained their trust.

The Dark Order has been on a roll of late with Stu Grayson & Evil Uno being undefeated in 2020. They have been teasing that The Exalted One is coming soon, but it would seem that Matt Hardy has been ruled out for that role.

A rare match-up between two wrestlers who are outside of the top 5 AEW Rankings. Big Swole has been making an impact of late and has a ton of potential. While Leva clearly has the experience advantage here.

PAC defeated Orange Cassidy at AEW Revolution and now continues his issue with the Best Friends here. PAC lost in the Iron Man match to Kenny Omega last week on Dynamite which dropped him to 5th in the latest AEW rankings. This will be Chuck Taylor’s first singles match since joining AEW.

It seems likely that we may see the Lucha Brothers make their presence felt here.

Dustin Rhodes lost to Jake Hager at AEW Revolution and then announced that he would be focusing on the tag team division going forward. Dustin will former a team called the Natural Nightmares with QT Marshall that will be managed by Brandi Rhodes. This will be Jake Hager’s second match in AEW history.

This match feels like it could have Blood & Guts match implications with Dustin Rhodes along with Darby Allin and Jon Moxley are the three wrestlers who have the biggest issue with the Inner Circle right now.

We don’t know anything about what he might be doing here, but Lance Archer was announced to be at this show on last week’s Dynamite.

This week’s main event will see Jon Moxley teaming up with Darby Allin to take on Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara. Both Inner Circle members lost in singles match to these two at Revolution with Moxley of course winning the AEW World Championship.

It seems like the issue between these four is far from over and may need to be settled at Blood & Guts in three weeks.
